Will I receive a refund if my citizenship application is rejected?

If your Canadian citizenship application is rejected, you may be eligible for a partial refund. The refund policy depends on which fees you have paid.

  • Right of Citizenship Fee ($100 for adults) – This fee is refundable if your application is denied or withdrawn before taking the Oath of Citizenship.
  • Processing Fee ($530 for adults, $100 for minors) – This fee is non-refundable, even if your application is refused. Processing begins as soon as IRCC receives your application, so this fee covers the work already completed.

If you are eligible for a refund, IRCC will process it automatically and return the amount to the original payment method. If you believe you should have received a refund but haven’t, you can contact IRCC through the IRCC Web Form.

To avoid rejection, ensure your application is complete, accurate, and meets all eligibility requirements before submission.
